Ben Affleck To Direct Disney’s ‘Keeper Of The Lost Cities’ Adaptation

Ben Affleck remains one of the most successful and dependable performers of the modern era. With a highly anticipated reprisal of his Batman role in Zack Snyder’s Justice League and The Flash on the horizon, the actor continues to add to his award-winning career. According to Deadline, The Way Back director will step behind the camera for Walt Disney Pictures next with a live-action adaptation of the bestselling young adult book series Keeper of the Lost Cities.
Written by Shannon Messenger, Keeper of the Lost Cities tells the story of Sophie Foster, a twelve-year-old high school senior with the ability to read minds. After years of feeling alone, Sophie meets a mysterious and adorable boy named Fitz Vacker. Fitz shows her that there is a place where she belongs, and staying where she is will put her in terrible danger. The story has continued over eight books as of November 2019, with one book released each year, as well as three short stories in limited editions.

Affleck will reportedly direct the feature as well as executive produce via his Pearl Street banner. Additionally, Affleck will also adapt the story into a screenplay alongside Kate Gritmon (Game of Thrones). Madison Ainley (Justice League) is also on-board as the film’s executive producer.
Recently, Affleck turned in one of the most powerful performances of his career in The Way Back. So much so, that Warner Bros is reportedly looking to campaign him for Best Actor consideration at this year’s Oscars. Up next, Affleck will portray King Charles VI in Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel. Moreover, Affleck will also direct Paramount’s adaptation of The Big Goodbye and star in George Clooney’s The Tender Bar for Amazon Prime Video.
