Nicole Kidman & Javier Bardem Eyed To Play Lucille Ball & Desi Arnaz In Aaron Sorkin’s ‘Being The Ricardos’

Director Aaron Sorkin recently released a critically acclaimed film via Netflix titled The Trial of the Chicago 7. With that movie is a likely contender in the upcoming awards season, it appears Sorkin is already lining up his next project. As first reported by Deadline, Sorkin will next direct Being the Ricardos, with Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem in negotiations to command the film’s starring roles.

The highly anticipated picture will reportedly document the relationship between the I Love Lucy stars Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. Sorkin penned the screenplay and will produce it as well. Amazon Studios will produce the feature and distribute it via Amazon Prime Video.

The film will follow one production week of the iconic 1950s hit series, I Love Lucy. In addition to starring in the series, Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz were also husband and wife in real life. Being the Ricardos will see the famous couple have to band together to face a crisis that has the potential to derail both their careers and their marriage. Throughout her tenure, Lucille Ball was nominated for 13 Primetime Emmy Awards, winning four times. Additionally, her legacy includes roles in early TV shows like Mission: Impossible and Star Trek. After meeting Cuban bandleader Desi Arnaz, the two eloped in November 1940. Together, the dynamic duo created the sitcom I Love Lucy. Before their divorce in 1960, the couple welcomed two children, Lucie Arnaz, and Desi Arnaz Jr.

Jason Blumenthal (Seven Pounds), Todd Black (Southpaw), and Steve Tisch (Forrest Gump) are on-board to produce the film. Additionally, the aforementioned Lucie Arnaz and Desi Arnaz Jr will executive produce alongside David Bloomfield (The Usual Suspects), Jenna Block (Knowing), and Lauren Lohman (The Trial of the Chicago 7).

Nicole Kidman is one of the most recognizable performers in modern cinema. Kidman earned the Academy Award for Best Actress thanks to her role in 2002’s The Hours. Recently, the actress appeared alongside Meryl Streep in Netflix’s The Prom and Jason Momoa in DC’s Aquaman. Following a stunning performance in HBO’s The Undoing, Kidman will next appear in Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers, opposite Luke Evans and Melissa McCarthy. Meanwhile, Javier Bardem won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Coen Brothers’ No Country for Old Men. Up next, the mother! star will portray King Triton in Disney’s live-action The Little Mermaid. Additionally, the versatile actor will play the role of Stilgar in Denis Villeneuve‘s highly anticipated Dune.
