Melissa McCarthy & Ben Falcone To Star In Netflix Comedy Series ‘God’s Favorite Idiot’

Fresh off the release of her latest movie Superintelligence on HBO Max, Melissa McCarthy continues to line up a litany of comedic roles on both the big and small screens. According to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, McCarthy will team with her longtime collaborator and husband Ben Falcone for a new comedy series in the works at Netflix.
The series, titled God’s Favorite Idiot, is a workplace comedy with a bit of a twist. Created by Falcone himself, the show will follow a mid-level tech support employee named Clark. After he falls in love with his co-worker, he unwillingly becomes an unwitting messenger of God. Hilarious hijinx ensue as the couple engages in normal beginning-of-the-relationship activities like roller skating, a lake of fire, and the impending apocalypse. Netflix has ordered the comedy series for an initial 16-episode run with production beginning early next year.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine star and director Michael McDonald is boarding the series to direct and executive produce. Moreover, McCarthy and Falone will produce via their On the Day production company. This will be the next joint endeavor between them and Netflix following the completion of their upcoming collaboration Thunder Force.
In addition to her recent starring role in Superintelligence, McCarthy will next film The Little Mermaid in which she will portray Ursula. Additionally, the actress will star in the upcoming Hulu comedy Nine Perfect Strangers. Meanwhile, Falcone appeared alongside his wife in Superintelligence as well. Best known for his work in Bridesmaids, Identity Thief, and New Girl, Falone will next direct the Christmas comedy feature Margie Claus.
