Anthony Mackie To Star In & Produce Netflix’s Action Thriller ‘The Ogun’

While Marvel fans will have to wait just a little while longer to see his new interpretation of the MCU’s Captain America, it appears Anthony Mackie is showing no signs of slowing down in the meantime. As first reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Mackie is gearing up to collaborate with Netflix for a thrilling new action feature.
The film, titled The Ogun, hails from stuntman-turned-screenwriter Madison Turner (The Dark Knight Rises). Mackie will produce the feature alongside Jason Michael Berman (The Birth of a Nation). Moreover, Netflix will handle finance and distribution while the search for a director remains ongoing at the time of this writing.

The story follows Mackie’s character, Xavier Rhodes. When his daughter is diagnosed with a rare genetic condition, they travel to Nigeria in search of a cure. However, Xavier’s daughter is kidnapped and he must now run through the Nigerian criminal underworld to find her. Additionally, he uncovers dormant powerful abilities that he must put to the test. Sources close to the project refer to it as a mix between John Wick and Dante’s Inferno.
The film continues Mackie’s longstanding relationship with Netflix. Previously, the actor has appeared in the Black Mirror and Altered Carbon for the streaming service. Up next, Mackie will reprise his role as Sam Wilson in the Disney+ series Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Outside of the MCU, Mackie can last be seen in the Apple TV film The Banker and will next star alongside Amy Adams in The Woman in the Window.
