Nick Offerman Reportedly Offered The Role Of Mr. Smee In ‘Peter Pan & Wendy’

Disney’s live-action films based on popular animated properties continue to create new and exciting variations of classic tales. On the heels of successful films like Mulan and The Lion King, Disney will next put a Peter Pan reimagining into production. After the additions of Jude Law as Captain Hook and Black-ish star Yara Shahidi as Tinker Bell, a new report from The Illuminerdi suggests Parks & Recreation star Nick Offerman is in talks to join the film as Hook’s faithful sidekick, Smee.
Per the initial report, an offer has been extended to Offerman. If he accepts, he will appear on-screen alongside the previously cast Alexander Molony & Ever Anderson, who will play Peter Pan and Wendy, respectively. Additionally, Offerman’s inclusion would offer an interesting take on the character, who first appeared in J. M. Barrie’s 1904 play Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up.

Peter Pan & Wendy is not the first attempt at creating a live-action version of Peter Pan. The first adaptation was the cult-classic Hook, which starred Robin Willaims and more recently, Hugh Jackman’s Pan. David Lowery, who directed Pete’s Dragon, is currently on board to helm the feature. Lowery co-wrote the script with Toby Halbrooks, with Jim Whitaker producing.
Perhaps best known for playing Ron Swanson in Parks and Rec, Offerman often impresses in dramatic roles as well. His impressive résumé includes roles in the FX series Fargo and a voice role in The Lego Movie franchise. Up next, the actor will star alongside Jenny Slate in the animated sitcom The Great North. Moreover, Offerman will portray one of American activist Colin Kaepernick‘s parents, alongside Mary-Louise Parker, in Ava DuVernay’s Colin In Black & White.
