Nick Offerman & Mary-Louise Parker Join The Cast Of Ava DuVernay’s ‘Colin In Black & White’

One of the most anticipated upcoming Netflix projects is the retrospective limited series focusing on a polarizing American activist. Colin Kaepernick’s life story will be put on full display in the new series hailing from Emmy Award winner Ava DuVernay titled Colin in Black & White. As first reported by Deadline, the cast is beginning to come to fruition with recent additions Mary-Louise Parker and Nick Offerman.
The latest casting additions will join the previously announced Jaden Michael, who is on-board to portray Kaepernick. Per the initial report, Parker and Offerman will play Kaepernick’s adoptive parents, Rick and Teresa Kaepernick.
Perhaps best known for playing Ron Swanson in Parks and Rec, Offerman often impresses in dramatic roles as well. His impressive résumé includes roles in the FX series Fargo and a voice role in The Lego Movie franchise. Up next, the actor will star alongside Jenny Slate in the animated sitcom The Great North. Meanwhile, Mary-Lousie Parker endeared herself to the masses in acclaimed shows like The West Wing and Angels in America. Parker will next reprise her role of Nancy Botwin in Showtime’s upcoming Weeds sequel series.

The limited series, titled Colin in Black & White, will feature a script written by When They See Us scribe Michael Starrbury. It will reportedly focus on Kaepernick’s teenage years and early sports successes in his hometown of Turlock, California. Moreover, the series will place a specific perspective on his outlook as a young biracial man adopted by a white family and the outlook it creates. Production will likely begin later this year.
DuVernay is one of the busiest names in Hollywood today. Over the last few years, she directed big-screen hits like A Wrinkle In Time. Additionally, the new Netflix series will continue the filmmaker’s relationship with the streamer after When They See Us, The 13th, and a cameo on BlackAF. Up next, the Academy Award-nominated director will develop a New Gods film for the DC Extended Universe alongside Tom King.
