‘Black-ish’ Star Yara Shahidi To Play Tinker Bell In ‘Peter Pan & Wendy’

Disney’s live-action films based on popular animated properties continue to create new and exciting variations of classic tales. Following the success of films like Mulan and The Lion King, Disney will next put a Peter Pan reimagining into production. As first reported by Deadline, Black-ish star Yara Shahidi will join the cast of Peter Pan & Wendy as the iconic fairy Tinker Bell.
Shahidi will appear on-screen alongside the previously cast Alexander Molony & Ever Anderson, who will play Peter Pan and Wendy respectively. Moreover, Sherlock Holmes star Jude Law will star in the picture as the villainous Captain Hook. Previous reports claim the Tinker Bell role was initially offered to Birds of Prey star Margot Robbie.
Tinker Bell first appeared in 1953’s original Peter Pan animated film. Since then, the character has gone on to star in her own Disney Fairies franchise consisting of copious direct-to-DVD films.

Peter Pan & Wendy is not the first attempt at creating a live-action version of Peter Pan. The first adaptation was the cult-classic Hook, which starred Robin Willaims and, most recently, was Hugh Jackman’s Pan. David Lowery, who directed Pete’s Dragon, is currently on board to helm the feature. Lowery co-wrote the script with Toby Halbrooks, with Jim Whitaker producing.
Yara Shahidi first made a name for herself in a starring role in ABC’s critically acclaimed series Black-Ish. Shahidi’s character was so well-received she currently has her own spinoff titled Grown-ish on Freeform. Shadidi also appears in 2019’s The Sun Is Also a Star and touts voice roles in movies like Smallfoot and Fe@rLeSS_.
