Erin Kellyman, Cailee Spaeny & Ellie Bamber Join Lucasfilm’s ‘Willow’ Series For Disney+

A little more than a month ago, the creative team for Lucasfilm’s upcoming Willow sequel series came to light. With filmmakers like Kathleen Kennedy, Jon M. Chu, Jonathan Kasdan, and Ron Howard behind the camera, it appears casting for the series is now well underway. As first reported by Deadline, Erin Kellyman, Cailee Spaeny, and Ellie Bamber are all in final negotiations to join the series as its three leads.
Additionally, the film’s original star Warwick Davis will reprise his role for the series as well. Previously, it was revealed that the story will take place 30 years following the events of the original film. While plot details remain semi-scarce at this time, the initial report includes tidbits about the actresses’ characters for the show. Bamber’s character Dove will feature a backstory similar to the original film’s titular character, Willow. Spaeny plays Kit, a princess, while Kellyman will portray Jade, Kit’s warrior best friend. Together, the three will venture to rescue a kidnapped prince, Kit’s twin brother. Moreover, the three female leads will ultimately be joined by a male who shares characteristics with Val Kilmer’s character from the original 1988 feature.

The actress will next appear in The Craft: Legacy. Finally, Ellie Bamber is best known for her role in the BBC One television series Les Misérables and the Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal-starring thriller Nocturnal Animals.
Willow is a 1988 American dark fantasy drama. The movie, directed by the aforementioned Ron Howard, was written by Star Wars creator George Lucas and Bob Dolman (How to Eat Fried Worms). The film follows Willow, a reluctant farmer (Warwick Davis) who plays a critical role in protecting a baby from a tyrannical queen trying to take over the world. In addition to Davis, the cast also includes Val Kilmer, Joanne Whalley, Jean Marsh, and Billy Barty. The feature grossed $137.6 million worldwide and earned two Academy Award nominations.
