Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s highly anticipated entry to the DCEU will be a game-changer for the franchise. Last year, it was reported that the Black Adam script included the likes of Hawkman and the JSA. Now, a new report from The Illuminerdi reveals the film is currently eyeing Big Little Lies star Alexander Skarsgård to portray the legendary Thanagarian.
Pre the initial report, Skarsgård is Warner Bros’ first choice to play the character in the film. However, studio executives have their eyes on a few other options as well, specifically Outlander star Sam Heughan. As always, this new report should be taken with a grain of salt for the time-being with official casting confirmation likely to surface at this weekend’s DC Fandome event.

Hawkman first appeared in Flash Comics #1 (1940). Also known as Carter Hall, the hero is a reincarnation of the ancient Egyptian prince Khufu. Created by writer Gardner Fox and artist Dennis Neville, Hawkman has been a mainstay of the DC universe and was a founding member of the Justice Society of America. He works closely with his partner Hawkgirl, who is also rumored to appear in Black Adam. Moreover, Michael Shanks (Saving Hope) played the role in Smallville and Falk Hentschel (White House Down) later donned the cowl in The CW’s Arrowverse. Recently, The Rock had some fun on Twitter teasing Deadpool‘s Ryan Reynolds would be cast as the character.
Alexander Skarsgård’s accolades include a Primetime Emmy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award for his work on Big Little Lies. The Swedish actor also starred as the titular character in 2016’s The Legend of Tarzan. Up next, the actor will appear in Godzilla v. Kong and the CBS All Access series The Stand.
Over the last few years, speculation on what the actual film will depict has made the rounds. Among them, the introduction of Cyclone and Doctor Fate stands out as particularly exciting. Last month Noah Centineo joined the cast as Atom Smasher. Moreover, Black Adam will be produced by The Rock’s Seven Bucks Productions alongside Warner Bros and New Line Cinema. Production is currently delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
