Mariana Delgado

Mariana (she/her) is a recent graduate student from the University of South Florida where she foolishly earned a Master’s degree in Liberal Arts with a concentration in film studies. Proud mother of one beautiful little schnauzer named Pepe and lover of all things trauma-related theory. When she’s not rewatching The Leftovers, she may also be found rewatching LOST as a means to finally understand the human condition one traumatic show at a time.

Mariana Delgado Posted On February 8, 2022

You Won’t Be Alone, Goran Stolevski’s 19th-century Macedonian folklore tale, connects deeply not just with humanity but with the Earth. Reminiscent of a Terrence Malick film but coated in gothic horror, the film is a meditation on our time on […]

Sundance 2022: ‘Good Luck to You, Leo Grande’ Review – “Comedic Depth & Humanity”
Mariana Delgado Posted On January 24, 2022

There are romantic comedies whose sole purpose is to charm. To tease a smile out of their viewers and give them a good time. Or, those that sweep viewers off their feet with ‘meet cutes’ and ‘first kiss’ plots. At […]

Sundance 2022: ‘A Love Song’ Review: “The Universal Truth of Love”
Mariana Delgado Posted On January 22, 2022

“How can you love something that ain’t there no more?” When loneliness becomes a stifling part of ourselves, where do we go? Loss and grief only add and accentuate that feeling. They feed the void inside us that yearns for […]

In a world that appears to be falling apart, Somebody, Somewhere takes us back to the basics. To the simple tasks that seem almost too daunting at times. Like getting up in the morning. Or going through your dead sister’s […]

‘The Tragedy of Macbeth’ Review: “Insanity is Becoming”
Mariana Delgado Posted On January 7, 2022

“Were such things here as we do speak about? Or have we eaten on the insane root. That takes the reason prisoner.” (Shakespeare, 1.3.83-85) Like a dream, in a hollow void, with clouds of smoke and stunning black and white […]

‘The Sex Lives of College Girls’ Season 1 Review: “The Reality of Growing Up”
Mariana Delgado Posted On December 13, 2021

Coming of age stories are a dime a dozen – more than I can count with two hands in the last year alone. There’s Euphoria, an overzealous attempt at elevating the everyday problems of teenagers by glamourizing the graphic details […]

‘Love Hard’ Review: “A Way Back”
Mariana Delgado Posted On November 16, 2021

Where have all the real romantic comedies gone? The ones that make the heart ache as you leave the movie theatre. The ones that reminds us of the magic of love, if ever so tenuous. There’s an emptiness to these […]

‘Succession’ S3, Ep 2 & 3 – ‘Mass in Time of War’ & ‘The Disruption’ Review: “The Roys at their Best”
Mariana Delgado Posted On November 4, 2021

There are no “winners” in Succession. To think about “winners” and “losers” is to assume these characters have a more robust moral backbone. Succession is a raving success because it knows that there’s no better universal aphrodisiac than watching a […]
