Following the castings of Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Mandalorian warrior Sabine Wren and Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader, the upcoming Rosario Dawson-led Star Wars series following Ahsoka Tano added Birds of Prey star Mary Elizabeth Winstead in a mysterious role. Now, a new report from The Bespin Bulletin just might have revealed who the actress is playing in the Star Wars universe. According to their sources, Winstead will portray a live-action version of an iconic figure from the franchise’s animated realm, Hera Syndulla.
Until the news is confirmed by Disney and Lucasfilm themselves, take this report with a grain of salt. However, a brief look at Hera Syndulla was seen in a teaser for the Ahsoka series during Star Wars Celebration earlier this year, so it is known that she will appear in the show.
Hera is first introduced in the animated Star Wars Rebels show as an impressive ace pilot and an early leader in the Rebellion. She works alongside the Jedi Knight Kanan Jarrus to outwit the Empire alongside Sabine Wren and Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios. Additionally, Syndulla serves as a mentor for the young Jedi Ezra Bridger. The Twi’lek is often accompanied by her rambunctious droid Chopper and has her origins explored in The Bad Batch. While not seen in The Return of the Jedi, Syndulla was also influential during the Battle of Endor. Following the events of Star Wars Rebels, Syndulla gives birth to her and Kanans’s son named Jacen Syndulla.

Star Wars: Ahsoka hails from writer Dave Filoni, who will executive produce the series alongside Jon Favreau. Lucasfilm is financing the latest Star Wars live-action series with Disney+ handling distribution. Additionally, production on the series is slated to begin in the next few months.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead recently portrayed the Huntress in 2019’s critically acclaimed DC movie Birds of Prey. Since then, the multitalented actress touts various action roles like Gemini Man, opposite Will Smith, and Kate, opposite Woody Harrelson. Up next, Winstead will star alongside Doctor Stranger in the Multiverse of Madness standout Xochitl Gomez in the sci-fi thriller Ursa Major.
