One of the most exciting among the onslaught of recent MCU announcements is confirmation that Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn returning to their MCU roles. The two stars will lead the cast for Marvel’s Secret Invasion series for Disney+. Shortly afterward, Marvel Studios began filling out the show’s cast with some pretty exciting names, including Oscar winner Olivia Colman. Now, a new report from The Illuminerdi suggests Colman will portray Marvel Comics character Union Jack in the film.
Created by Roy Thomas and Frank Robbins, the first Union Jack first appeared in Invaders #7 in 1976. A second incarnation from the same creators appeared in The Invaders #21, and a third incarnation was created by Roger Stern and John Byrne for Captain America Vol. 1 #254 in 1981. Over the course of the character’s lifetime, the superhero demonstrates expert hand-to-hand combatant, espionage, and enhanced peak human condition. JJ Feild portrayed the James Montgomery Falsworth version in Captain America: The First Avenger as a member of the Howling Commandoes.
Colman joins One Night in Miami star Kingsley Ben-Adir and the aforementioned Jackson and Mendelsohn in the cast. Moreover, Cobie Smulders, Martin Freeman, and Don Cheadle will also reprise their MCU roles in the series. Additionally, Emilia Clarke is now expected to portray the Skrull G’iah in the series.
Olivia Colman is one of the most revered actresses of her generation. She is the recipient of an Academy Award, three British Academy Television Awards, and three Golden Globe Awards. Notably, Colman earned a nod for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for her role in The Father. Up next, the British actress will star in the upcoming film adaptation of Charles Dickens’s Great Expectations.
