Rian Johnson is by far one of the most prolific filmmakers of his time. So much so that Full Circle Cinema has covered his filmography at length over the years. Now, the director is setting his sights on the TV medium with a new series in the works at Peacock. As first reported by Deadline, the Johnson has enlisted a dynamite ensemble cast for the highly anticipated series.
The most recent additions to the cast are comedian Lil Rel Howery, In The Heights standout Dascha Polanco, and Everything Everywhere All at Once star Stephanie Hsu. They join series star Natasha Lyonne, as well as Adrien Brody, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Benjamin Bratt, and David Castañeda.
Rian Johnson will also executive produce the series alongside his longtime collaborator Ram Bergman via their T Street production banner. The series, titled Poker Face, has a 10-episode straight-to-series order from NBCUniversal’s Peacock streamer. While little is known about the series at this time, Johnson expresses that he is “excited to dig into the type of fun, character-driven, case-of-the-week mystery goodness” that he grew up watching.
Dascha Polanco is known for portraying the role of Daya Diaz on the Netflix series Orange Is the New Black. Up next, the actress will voice Jessica Cruz AKA the Green Lantern in the animated film DC League of Super-Pets. Meanwhile, Lil Rel Howery enjoyed a rather successful 2021 thanks to roles alongside Ryan Reynolds in Free Guy and John Cena in Vacation Friends. Up next, he joins Zachary Levi in Sony’s live-action Harold And The Purple Crayon film. Stephani Hsu touts a recurring role in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel before starring in the indie mega hit Everything Everywhere All At Once. She will use that momentum and star in an upcoming Disney+ series American Born Chinese alongside Michelle Yeoh.
