Amidst the second season of HBO’s hit series Euphoria, Zendaya is consistently one of the most discussed actresses in the world. So much so that the multitalented performer is truly a hot commodity in Hollywood these days. Up next, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Zendaya will star in Call Me by Your Name director Luca Guadagnino’s latest endeavor.
Zendaya joins West Side Story standout, Mike Faist, and Golden Globe winner Josh O’Connor in the cast. Guadagnino will direct the feature as well as produce alongside Zendaya and Amy Pascal (Spider-Man: No Way Home). American playwright and author Justin Kuritzkes penned the script, which features in the 2021 Black List. MGM has picked up the drama for distribution.
Per the initial report, the film, titled Challengers, follows a tennis player turned coach named Tashi (Zendaya). After transforming her husband Art (Faist) from a mediocre tennis player into a world champion, the team begins suffering from a losing streak. Desperate to turn the tide, Tashi forces Art to play a low level of the tournament on the pro tour where he comes face-to-face with his former best friend, and Tashi’s former boyfriend (O’Connor).
Zendaya continues to carve out a great legacy all her own. Her recent film appearances include roles in Malcolm & Marie, Space Jam: A New Legacy, and Denis Villeneuve’s Dune.
