Live-Action ‘Aristocats’ Movie In The Works At Disney

Walt Disney Pictures continues its reign at the top of the film industry. Despite the bevy of films being pushed back amidst the coronavirus pandemic, the future remains bright as the studio looks to add to its theatrical and streaming release schedule. Following the overwhelming success of adaptations of classic animated films like The Lion King and Aladdin, Disney will next put a live-action Aristocats in development.
Per the initial report, Will Gluck (Peter Rabbit) and Keith Bunin (Onward) will write the script for the movie. Additionally, Gluck is producing through his Olive Bridge Entertainment production banner as well. No word yet on who the studio is courting to direct.

Premiering in 1970, The Aristocats is a classic animated romantic-comedy musical. The story is originally based on a story by Tom McGowan and Tom Rowe. Moreover, the film features the voice talents of Phil Harris, Eva Gabor, Hermione Baddeley, and Scatman Crothers. The film takes place in Paris, France, and follows a family of aristocratic cats (Duchess, Toulouse, Marie, and Berlioz) and how an alley cat named Thomas O’Malley. After a butler kidnaps them to gain his mistress’s fortune, Thomas helps the family find their way back home.
The Aristocats joins a slew of upcoming live-action films like The Little Mermaid, Snow White, and Peter Pan & Wendy. Additionally, rumors point the Disney working on a remake of Hercules. Furthermore, thanks to their box office success, the studio is exploring sequels to its live-action Cruella, Mulan, and Aladdin features as well.
