‘Cruella’ Sequel In Early Development At Disney

Last week, Disney continued its run of successful live-action adaptations of animated classics with the 101 Dalmatians spinoff Cruella. Now, as first reported by The Hollywood Reporter, it appears Disney is looking to keep the ball rolling by greenlighting a Cruella sequel.
Per the initial report, director Craig Gillespie and screenwriter Tony McNamara are likely to return to develop the film. Additionally, Emma Stone will likely reprise her role as the villainous fashion designer as well.

Releasing the feature in theaters and on Disney+, via Premier Access, simultaneously has proven to be a winning combination for the studio. So far, Cruella has earned $48.5 million globally with critics overwhelmingly praising the film. In fact, Full Circle’s very own Jacqueline Lainez says “there is no doubt Cruella captured my attention, and Stone’s performance of the iconic villain is one for the books” in her review.
In a statement accompanying the initial report, a Disney spokesperson touts the film’s success. “We are very pleased with Cruella’s box office success. The film has been incredibly well received by audiences around the world, with a 97% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes in addition to A’s in every demographic from CinemaScore on opening weekend, ranking it among the most popular of our live-action reimaginings. We look forward to a long run as audiences continue to enjoy this fantastic film.”
