Storm Reid Joins HBO’s ‘The Last Of Us’ Series As Riley

One of the most ambitious and anticipated upcoming adaptations is undoubtedly HBO’s The Last of Us series. With production currently ongoing, fans of the video game series are clamoring to learn as much as they can about the project. Now, as first reported by Deadline, it appears the cast continues to grow with the addition of Euphoria star Storm Reid.
Reid joins Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey who will handle the lead roles of Joel and Ellie, respectively. Additionally, Nick Offerman, Gabriel Luna, Merle Dandridge, Murray Bartlett, Jeffrey Pierce, and Anna Torv will appear in the series in various roles as well. Per the initial report, Reid is playing Riley Abel in the series. Riley is an orphaned girl growing up in post-apocalyptic Boston. She appears in The Last of Us: Left Behind DLC with Yaani King voicing the character. She is Ellie’s best friend and navigates the outbreak alongside her before she meets Joel.

Putting the adaptation together for HBO is the creator of Chernobyl, Craig Mazin. He will co-write alongside the game’s director, Neil Duckermann. Kantemir Balagov (Beanpole) is directing the pilot for HBO. The series, reportedly the largest television production in Canadian history, began filming in Calgary, Alberta in July 2021 and will end in June 2022. The story charts Joel, a smuggler tasked with escorting the teenage Ellie across the post-apocalyptic United States.
The multi-talented Storm Reid made her acting debut in the period drama film 12 Years a Slave. Since then the actress has shined in various films like A Wrinkle in Time, Don’t Let Go, and The Suicide Squad. Additionally, the actress is among the uber impressive ensemble on HBO’s Euphoria. Up next, Reid will star alongside Kevin Bacon in Andrew Baird’s One Way.
