‘Batgirl’ Set Photos Tease Court of Owls, Lex Luthor & Black Canary

As production continues on DC’s Batgirl more set photos reveal what Gotham City will look like. The latest batch show some interesting teases to The Court of Owls as well as Superman villain Lex Luthor and Birds of Prey star Black Canary.
The HBO Max original film is currently in filming on location and new images show various magazine covers.

The images tease a more expansive world than where we last left off. The magazine covers seem to indicate that The Court of Owls has been, somewhat, exposed to the public. The Court of Owls was first introduced to readers in 2011 when Batman stumbled upon a secret society that had been rooted in Gotham’s history for centuries.

We also get a tease that Lex Luthor still remains locked up in Arkham Asylum. This contradicts what audiences saw in 2017’s Justice League as well as last year’s Zack Snyder’s Justice League where Lex Luthor, played by Jesse Eisenberg, was last seen on a boat talking to Slade Wilson/Deathstroke. It remains to be seen if this Lex is the same one from that universe or if this new Lex was locked up at another point in this timeline.
Lastly, we have another look at Black Canary. The singer/superhero was last seen in Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn. It’s yet to be seen if the version from that film is the same one we’re getting in Batgirl.
Batgirl will be released on HBO Max sometime in 2022.
