Chris Evans To Play Gene Kelly In Untitled Film Produced By Rian Johnson

After nearly a decade of playing Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Chris Evans is one of the biggest stars in the world. Since stepping away from the MCU, the actor has been busy continuing to add to his already impressive legacy. Up next, it looks like Chris Evans is reuniting with Knives Out director Rian Johnson on a new project, according to Deadline.
Per the initial report, the feature hails from Academy Award nominee John Logan (Rango). Additionally, The Last Jedi‘s Rian Johnson is on board as one of the film’s executive producers. He joins Mark Kassen (Before We Go), the aforementioned Evans, and his longtime partner Ram Bergman, who will produce as well. At this time, no major studio has stepped up to distribute the film. However, Rian Johnson and Ram Bergman’s T-Street Productions is footing the bill for now.

Chris Evans will reportedly portray Gene Kelly in the currently untitled movie. The film’s plot charts a 12-year-old boy who works on the MGM Lot in 1952. As he daydreams, he begins to create an imagined friendship with Gene Kelly. Kelly is an iconic film star and filmmaker best known for his work in legendary musical films like Singin’ in the Rain and Hello, Dolly!. He is credited for transforming the Hollywood musical and, in 1999, the American Film Institute also ranked him as the 15th greatest male screen legend of Classic Hollywood Cinema.
Evans, who played Steve Rogers AKA Captain America in a total of 9 Marvel films over the course of 9 years, is entering the prime of his career. Following a standout role in Rian Johnson’s Knives Out, the actor will next appear as dentist Orin Scrivello in The Little Shop of Horrors remake. That film will see Evans reunite with his fellow Avenger Scarlett Johanson. Additionally, Evans will lead the cast in Scott Derrickson’s thriller, Bermuda. Most recently, Evans touts a cameo in Adam McKay’s popular Netflix film Don’t Look Up.
