Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Chris Evans’ Captain America has reached the end of the line. The actor will next look to extend his filmography with new films he was unable to do due to his Marvel commitments. As first reported by THR, one of those new projects will be the upcoming remake of Little Shop of Horrors.

Last month, Full Circle exclusively learned that Rocketman star Taron Egerton was in talks to star in the film as Seymour Krelborn. Now, THR confirms the scoop in its newest report.

Evans will appear in the musical as dentist Orin Scrivello, the role portrayed by Steve Martin in the 1986 movie. This is a role Evans had his eye on for a while now. During a conversation with THR last year, Evans said “I want to do a musical so badly, man. Someone told me they’re remaking Little Shop of Horrors and I was like, ‘Oh, can I be down? Please? Can I be the dentist?’”

Additionally, Evans’ MCU counterpart Scarlett Johanson and Billy Porter (Pose) and will star in the film as Audrey and Audrey II, respectively. The film will be produced by Warner Bros and directed by the Arrowverse producer Greg Berlanti.

Little Shop of Horrors (1986) follows a florist shop worker, Seymour, who finds an alien Venus flytrap that speaks (and sings). Within the NYC backdrop, his love for his attractive coworker Audrey leads him to name the plant Audrey II. However, as Audrey II begins to grow rapidly, its appetite becomes insatiable. Seymour then begins to feed the Venus flytrap humans, beginning with Audrey’s abusive boyfriend.

The 1986 remake received mostly mixed reviews upon release. However, it has since grown into a cult classic among moviegoers. The off-Broadway musical has toured all over the world and won the Drama Desk Award for Best Musical.

Last year, Evans stole the show as a part of the ensemble cast for Rian Johnson’s Knives Out. Up next for the actor will be a starring role in AppleTV+’s new series Defending Jacob.
