With recent hits like Minari and The Green Knight under its belt, A24 continues its trend of releasing quality films featuring big-name actors. Up next, the studio will team with filmmaker Isaiah Saxon for his debut feature titled The Legend of Ochi. According to Deadline, the film is enlisting the services of Willem Dafoe and Finn Wolfhard for the all-star ensemble.
Dafoe and Wolfhard will join Academy Award nominee Emily Watson (Breaking the Waves) and News of the World star Helena Zengel in the cast. Isaiah Saxon will write and direct the film, which is based on his own original story and characters. Moreover, Anthony and Joe Russo (Avengers: Endgame) are on board to executive produce the film via their AGBO production banner.
Perr the initial report, The Legend of Ochi follows a young girl, portrayed by Helena Zengel. After running away from home, the girl learns the ways of animal communication and develops a relationship with a mysterious animal species called the Ochi. Moreover, the film is described as a live-action fantasy adventure serving as a throwback to “old school pre-Lord of the Rings Peter Jackson” projects. A24 executives reportedly jumped at the opportunity to produce the original idea after hearing Saxon’s pitch.
Thanks to roles in films like Boondock Saints, Spider-Man, and Mississippi Burning, Dafoe is a household name. Up next, the actor is highly rumored to be reprising his role of the Green Goblin in the upcoming MCU movie Spider-Man: No Way Home. Additionally, Dafoe will join Christoph Waltz in the upcoming western thriller Dead for a Dollar. Meanwhile, Finn Wolfhard became a megastar in his own right thanks to his starring role in Netflix’s Stranger Things. Up next, Wolfhard joins Paul Rudd in the highly anticipated Ghostbusters: Afterlife.
