‘Bad Boys For Life’ Star Jacob Scipio Joins Leslie Grace In DC’s ‘Batgirl’

Following a breakout performance in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In The Heights, Leslie Grace will become DC’s next big superhero in Batgirl. Now, another recent breakout star is joining the cast of the highly anticipated film as well. As first reported by Deadline, Bad Boys For Life star as first Jacob Scipio is joining the DC family in Batgirl as well.
No word yet on who Scipio will play in the film. However, the casting reunites Scipio with his Bad Boys for Life directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, who will helm the feature. Additionally, Birds of Prey scribe Christina Hodson wrote the script with HBO Max handling the movie’s distribution via the streaming service. J.K. Simmons is also onboard to reprise his role as Commissioner Gordon after previously portraying the character in Justice League.
During this weekend’s DC FanDome event, fans got their first look at the concept art for the live-action version of the character. Additionally, during a recent interview, Leslie Grace revealed her approach to her adaptation of Batgirl AKA Barbara Gordon.

“She’s someone who’s been underestimated by even her own dad and being the youngest kid, sometimes you’re insulated from all of the tough stuff of life and she’s so eager to prove to herself and to everybody else that there’s some things that she can handle,” Grace says. “So, this journey is definitely going to show me a lot of that. I feel like I’m on an endless journey of proving to myself what barriers I can break, what limits I can break for myself and I’m excited to put a little bit of that eagerness and drive and, like, almost a bit of stubbornness into Barbara’s character.”
Jacob Scipio’s breakthrough performance came as the main villain, and Will Smith‘s son, in 2020’s Bad Boys For Life. However, prior to that, the actor touts a slew of lead TV roles in shows like Disney’s As the Bell Rings and BBC’s Some Girls. Most recently, Scipio appeared opposite Michael B. Jordan and Jodie Turner-Smith in Amazon’s Without Remorse. According to IMDb, Scipio will next star alongside Nicholas Cage and Pedro Pascal in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.
