Pedro Pascal might soon be playing a Nicolas Cage superfan opposite Nic Cage himself. The Wrap reported on Pascal is currently in talks to co-star in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.
The Mandolorian actor will play Javi, a Nicolas Cage superfan who is not all that he appears to be. Nicolas Cage will be starring as a fictionalized version of himself.
Creatively unfulfilled and facing financial ruin, Nicolas Cage must accept a $1 million offer to attend the birthday of a super fan (Pascal). When things take a wildly dangerous turn, Cage is forced to live up to his own legend, channeling his most iconic and beloved on-screen characters in order to save himself and his loved ones. With a career built for this very moment, the Academy Award winning iconic actor must take on the role of a lifetime: himself.
This film sounds completely crazy and off the wall. Cage playing himself is already interesting enough but having to “channel his most iconic characters” means we may see the return of the legendary “Ben Gates” of the National Treasure franchise. This is obviously a long-shot but the possibility is there.
Pascal stepping into a “crazed fan” role sounds interesting as well. With a filmography that ranges from Game of Thrones to the upcoming Wonder Woman 1984, Pascal has the background to show he might have what it takes to pull it off.
The film is directed by Tom Gormican from a screenplay by Tom Gormican & Kevin Etten. The film is expected to begin production this fall.
