‘Vacation Friends’ Sequel ‘Honeymoon Friends’ In The Works At Hulu

This past weekend, Hulu released its latest original comedy Vacation Friends starring John Cena and Lil Rey Howery. While critics have been mixed in their reviews for the film, including Full Circle’s very own Rascal Kennedy who called the film “very bad with minimal redeeming qualities”, Hulu touts it was the biggest opening weekend ever for a Hulu-exclusive release. Now, as first reported by Deadline, 20th Century Studios is already fast-tracking a sequel titled Honeymoon Friends.
Per the exclusive report, writer-director Clay Tarver will return to write the script and helm the project. Additionally, the main cast John Cena, Meredith Hagner, Lil Rey Howery, and Yvonne Orji will reprise their original roles in the sequel as well. Moreover, Todd Garner (Paul Blart: Mall Cop) will serve as the movie’s executive producer.

Vacation Friends follows a couple from Chicago on a week-long vacation in Mexico. After getting engaged, the mild-mannered couple meets a more intense couple who loves to party with hard drugs and alcohol. What follows is a series of mishaps and shenanigans in an all-out, ballistic uproarious comedy.
John Cena finds himself amidst a career highpoint. Following the release of F9 and The Suicide Squad, the 16-time WWE Champion is in extremely high demand. Up next, Cena will lead the cast of DC’s HBO Max series Peacemaker, created by James Gunn. Additionally, the performer recently returned to the WWE to face Universal Champion Roman Reigns at the annual Summerslam event. Meanwhile, Lil Rel Howery also continuously stands out in his recent string of films. After starring alongside Ryan Reynolds in Free Guy, Howery will star opposite Ben Affleck and Ana De Armas in the erotic psychological thriller Deep Water.
