Following hit TV shows like black-ish and #BlackAF, Kenya Barris continues to pump out critically acclaimed content. The creator is now looking to take his work to the big screen by directing a Richard Pryor biopic for MGM. Now, as first reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Barris is directing a new comedy for Netflix with some pretty big names in the cast.
Per the initial report, Eddie Murphy will lead the film’s cast alongside Jonah Hill. Barris and Hill collaborated to write the film’s script with Barris directing. Additionally, Bariss and Hill will executive produce the film via their Khalabo Ink Society and Strong Baby production banners, respectively.

However, details on the film’s plot are being kept under wraps. However, sources close to the story describe it as an examination of modern love and family dynamics. The film will feature clashing cultures and generational differences and how they shape relationships. It is also expected that Hill and Murphy’s characters will find themselves at odds at some point.
Eddie Murphy finds himself in the middle of a historic career resurgence. Following a Golden Globe nod for 2019’s Dolemite Is My Name, Murphy brought a litany of memorable characters back to life in Coming 2 America. Up next, the acting legend is expected to star in the highly anticipated Beverly Hills Cop 4. Meanwhile, Jonah Hill looks to bring his unique brand of humor and charisma back to leading roles. Hill has spent the last few years producing movies like Richard Jewell and lending his voice to animated hits like The Lego Batman Movie. Up next, Hill will appear in Adam McKay‘s upcoming Netflix film Don’t Look Up, alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence.
