‘I May Destroy You’ Star Michaela Coel Joins ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’

After months of grieving the loss of Chadwick Boseman, a loss that fans may never move on from, it appears Marvel is finally beginning to move forward with the sequel to Boseman’s Oscar-nominated film Black Panther. As first reported by Variety, I May Destroy You star Michaela Coel is the latest to join the cast.
While details on who Coel is playing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe are scarce at this time, sources can confirm she is on set for the film, which is currently filming in Atlanta. Coel joins returning stars Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, and Angela Bassett in the film. Additionally, she joins fellow MCU newcomer Narcos: Mexico star Tenoch Huerta, who is rumored to portray Namor in the film.

Releasing in 2018, Black Panther follows King T’Challa’s ascension to the throne of Wakanda. The film became a cultural phenomenon and went on to gross over $1 billion at the worldwide box office. With seven Oscar nominations, it is the first superhero film to receive a Best Picture nomination and the first MCU film to win an Academy Award.
Michaela Coel is the creator, writer, co-director, and executive producer of the hit HBO series I May Destroy You. Notably, the actress touts four Emmy Award nominations which will be decided at the ceremony this September. Additionally, Coel touts memorable performances in films like Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Been So Long and the hit Netflix series Black Mirror.
Black Panther 2 will release on May 6, 2022.
