After months of grieving the loss of Chadwick Boseman, a loss that fans may never move on from, it appears Marvel is finally beginning to move forward with the sequel to Boseman’s Oscar-nominated film Black Panther. As first reported by Variety, I May Destroy You star Michaela Coel is the latest to join the cast.
While details on who Coel is playing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe are scarce at this time, sources can confirm she is on set for the film, which is currently filming in Atlanta. Releasing in 2018, Black Panther follows King T’Challa’s ascension to the throne of Wakanda. The film became a cultural phenomenon and went on to gross over $1 billion at the worldwide box office. With seven Oscar nominations, it is the first superhero film to receive a Best Picture nomination and the first MCU film to win an Academy Award.
