This week is the highly anticipated Cannes Virtual Market, attended by Full Circle’s very own Ileana Meléndez and Josie Meléndez. With that in mind, movie fans can expect to hear about a bevy of hot packages stemming from the event. One of these big films, titled Foe, hails from Garth Davis. As first reported by Deadline, Amazon Studios has entered negotiations for a worldwide distribution deal for the feature.
The film will be an adaptation of Iain Reid’s bestselling science fiction novel with the same name. Davis will direct with a script he wrote with Reid. Additionally, Academy Award nominees Saoirse Ronan and Lakeith Stanfield will lead the film’s cast with Paul Mescal (Normal People) in a supporting role. Moreover, Kerry Kohansky-Roberts of Anonymous Content will serve as an executive producer. Finally, Davis will produce as well along with Emile Sherman (Lion), and Iain Canning (Slow West).
Foe will be a sci-fi psychological thriller taking place in the near future. In a world where corporate power and environmental decay is killing the planet, Junior and Hen, a young married couple played by Mescal and Ronan, live a solitary life on a farm. However, when Terrance, a stranger played by Stanfield, comes around with news, their life is thrown into utter turmoil. When Junior must embark on a trip to a large experimental space station, arrangements are made so Hen won’t even have the chance to miss him.
The incomparable Lakeith Stanfield recently earned an Oscar nod for his role in Judas and the Black Messiah. Outside of that, the Atlanta star continues to prove his range thanks to memorable roles in Knives Out, The Photograph, and Uncut Gems. Up next, Stanfield joins Jonathan Majors and Idris Elba in Netflix’s The Harder They Fall. Meanwhile, Ronan received numerous accolades, including one Golden Globe Award and nominations for four Academy Awards. Best known for memorable turns in Little Women and Lady Bird, Ronan most recently appears opposite Kate Winslet in Ammonite. Furthermore, the Irish actress leads the cast for Wes Anderson‘s The French Dispatch.
