‘Rangers Of The New Republic’ Disney+ Series Rumored To Replace Cara Dune With Hera Syndulla

Last December, during Disney’s Investor Day, a rather exciting slate of films and shows set in the Star Wars universe was revealed. Among them, an Ahsoka Tano spinoff and a Lando Calrissian-centric series. However, one series that didn’t announce which characters would be taking the lead was Rangers of the New Republic. While many assumed the series would focus on Gina Carano‘s Cara Dune, that news was confirmed following the actresses’ firing from Lucasfilm. After a slew of anti-Semitic and transphobic social media posts, the upcoming series will find a new star. A new rumor from LRM Online suggests Hera Syndulla may be the first choice to lead the show.
Hera is first introduced in the animated Star Wars Rebels show as an impressive ace pilot and an early leader in the Rebellion. She works alongside the Jedi Knight Kanan Jarrus to outwit the Empire alongside Sabine Wren and Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios. Additionally, Syndulla serves as a mentor for the young Jedi Ezra Bridger. Moreover, the Twi’lek is often accompanied by her rambunctious droid Chopper. While not seen in The Return of the Jedi, Syndulla was also influential during the Battle of Endor. Following the events of Star Wars Rebels, Syndulla gives birth to her and Kanans’s son named Jacen Syndulla.

Following the inclusion of animated characters like Bo-Katan Kryze and Ahsoka Tano in season two of The Mandalorian, many Star Wars fans assume more will follow. In fact, a new rumor suggests Aladdin star Mena Massoud will portray the aforementioned Ezra Bridger in live-action. With Dave Filoni taking the helm of the future of Star Wars in the live-action medium, the filmmaker likely is eager to bring his animated creations to life.
The future of Star Wars appears to be brighter than ever. In May, a new animated series titled The Bad Batch will premiere on Disney+. Additionally, December will see the release of The Book of Boba Fett, starring Temuera Morrison. Additionally, notable filmmakers like Kevin Feige, Taika Waititi, and Patty Jenkins have various Star Wars films in development as well.
