‘Game Of Thrones’ Star Indira Varma Joins The Cast Of ‘Kenobi’ Disney+ Series In Mysterious Role

With production getting underway in just a few short weeks, it appears Star Wars fans are getting a little bit more information regarding the highly anticipated Obi-Wan Kenobi spinoff series. As first reported by Deadline, Game of Thrones star Indira Varma is joining the cast of Kenobi in a mysterious role.
While details on the role remain scarce, Star Wars fans are quick to guess the actress is playing notable Star Wars characters Satine Kryze. However, with Kryze passing away in The Clone Wars, other fans think Varma will portray Asajj Ventress. Ventress is an assassin trained by Count Dooku with a long history with Kenobi. Regardless, Indira Varma will bring her unique blend of grace to the upcoming Star Wars live-action series.
In addition to her role in HBO’s Game of Thrones, Varma also appears in the ABC drama series For Life. The actress’s film credits include roles in films like Exodus: Gods and Kings and The One and Only Ivan. Up next, Varma will star in the British satirical puppet show, Spitting Image.

Last January, the series stalled due to Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy’s displeasure with the show’s script. The scripts underwent a series of changes in hopes of resuming production in the summer. However, the pandemic made that goal extremely unlikely. Additionally, series star Ewan McGregor and showrunner Deborah Chow are still very much attached to the project with production beginning this spring.
The Kenobi series looked to be an extremely ambitious adventure. With episodes directed by Deborah Chow (Beauty and the Beast), the series was set to feature the likes of Luke Skywalker and Jar-Jar Binks. Additionally, Ewan McGregor teased his version of Obi-Wan Kenobi would be more like Alec Guinness’ original incarnation. The actor seems genuinely excited to reprise and expand the role in a series. Moreover, the upcoming series seems like the perfect place for the return of Darth Maul, who will reportedly appear in a number of Disney+ shows.
