Apple Studios Picks Up Sci-Fi Courtroom Drama ‘Dolly’ Starring Florence Pugh

Following Oscar and Golden Globe consideration for her scene-stealing role in Little Women, Florence Pugh continues with an upward trajectory in her blossoming career. Up next, as first reported by Deadline, Pugh will star in a new film recently acquired by Apple Studios titled Dolly.
Per the initial report, Dolly is a sci-fi courtroom drama. Inspired by Elizabeth Bear’s short story of the same name, the story follows a robotic companion doll. After allegedly killing its owner, the robot companion shocks the world by pleading not guilty of the charges and requesting a lawyer. However, the project is still in the infant stages of development with Apple Studios still searching for a director to take the helm.

However, Vanessa Taylor (Hillbilly Elegy) and Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3) are on-board to pen the film’s screenplay. Additionally, Apple Studios will handle financing and distribution via its Apple TV+ streaming service. In addition to screenwriting duties, Taylor and Pear will executive produce the film as well. Pugh will also serve as executive producer as well alongside Ian Fisher.
The latest role continues Pugh’s rise to success. Making a splash in the pro wrestling picture Wrestling With My Family, the Midsommar star was quickly scooped up by Marvel Studios. The actress will debut as Yelena Belova in Black Widow before reprising the role in the Disney+ series Hawkeye. Pugh is poised to take on the Black Widow moniker in future MCU installments. Additionally, Pugh will star alongside Harry Styles and Chris Pine in Olivia Wilde’s Don’t Worry Darling and lead the cast for Universal’s murder mystery The Maid.
