DC’s ‘Titans’ Season 3 Casts Savannah Welch As Barbara Gordon

The upcoming third season of DC Universe’s Titans has found its Barbara Gordon. Following months of rumors and speculation, Variety reports that Boyhood star Savannah Welch will join the series as the former Batgirl, Barbara Gordon.
First appearing in Detective Comics #359, Barabra Gordon is the daughter of Gotham City police commissioner James Gordon and a prominent member of the Bat-Family. She fought alongside Batman for years as Batgirl, until the Joker severely injured her spine, making her a paraplegic and forcing her to fight a crime a different way. Known as Oracle, Gordon provided intelligence and computer hacking services to assist her fellow superheroes, eventually becoming a founding member of the Birds of Prey.

Per the initial report, this version of the character has experience as Batgirl. However, just like in the comics, the Joker shoots her and leaves her wheelchair-bound. Additionally, her contentious relationship with Bruce Wayne leaves her and Brenton Thwaites’ Dick Grayson estranged. However, when Grayson returns to Gotham, the sparks of an old romance begin to flare up. Moreover, Welch’s Gordon will serve as Gotham City Police Commissioner.
The actress will join the third season of the DC Universe series alongside another character to be introduced, Roy Harper, who has yet to be officially announced. Moreover, rumors point to Gordon debuting in the first episode of the new season. Best known for starring in the History Channel military drama Six, Welch touts various appearances in film and TV. On the big screen, Welch can be seen in Richard Linklater’s Boyhood and the 2018 thriller The Transcendents. Moreover, Welch was tragically struck by a car in 2016, resulting in her right leg being amputated.
