From the studio that brought classics like Jaws, Jurassic Park, and Lincoln comes a new sci-fi comedy starring two of the brightest young stars in Hollywood today. As first reported by Deadline, Anthony Ramos and Naomi Scott will team-up for a new feature titled Distant from Amblin Entertainment.
Per the initial report, Scott joins Ramos as the replacement for Rachel Brosnahan. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel actress had to reportedly part ways with the production due to scheduling conflicts stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic. The upcoming film will tell the story of an asteroid miner (Ramos) who crashes on an alien planet. During his time there, he is forced to battle the challenges of the foreign world with his companion, a woman (Scott) still trapped in an escape pod.
Additionally, Blades of Glory directors Will Speck and Josh Gordon will helm the project. Moreover, Spenser Cohen (Extinction) penned the film’s screenplay. Brian Kavanaugh-Jones (Honey Boy), Fred Berger (La La Land), and Anna Halberg (That’s So Raven) are on-board to produce.
Both Ramos and Scott continue to carve out incredibly diverse and impressive résumés. Perhaps best known for his role in the original Broadway cast of Hamilton, Ramos has also appeared in Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Trolls World Tour. Up next, the actor will star in the film adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In The Heights. Meanwhile, Scott burst onto the scene with a show-stealing performance in 2017’s Power Rangers. Since then, the actress has starred in big-budget blockbusters like Aladdin and Charlie’s Angels.
