Kacey Musgraves Reportedly In Talks To Join The Cast Of ‘The Little Mermaid’

One of the most anticipated live-action films in Disney’s upcoming slate is the remake of the classic animated feature The Little Mermaid. The cast is one of the most intriguing aspects of the film with a number of high-level performers already on-board. Now, as first reported by The DisInsider, Disney may be circling Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Kacey Musgraves for a role in the film.
Per the initial report, Musgraves recently met with Disney executives via Zoom about appearing as Vanessa. In the original picture, Vanessa is the human persona Ursula uses to get in the way of Ariel and Eric’s love. Unfortunately, since the singer may have already passed on the role, the casting is far from official at this time. However, Musgraves does have an established relationship with Disney. Last year, she lent her voice to the soundtrack of Frozen 2 and appeared on the Disney covers album We Love Disney.

Musgraves is a 6-time Grammy Award winner, including a win for Album of the Year in 2019. Additionally, the performer touts a number of CMT and Academy of Country Music Awards as well. Moreover, her latest work, The Kacey Musgraves Christmas Show, came out last winter to critical acclaim.
Directed by Rob Marshall (Mary Poppins Returns), the film is on its way to joining Disney’s recent string of wildly successful live-action remakes. Additionally, it will feature new music penned by Hamilton scribe Lin-Manuel Miranda alongside iconic composer Alan Menken. If cast, Musgraves would join Halle Bailey, who will inhabit the starring role of Ariel. Javier Bardem, Melissa McCarthy, Awkwafina, and Jacob Tremblay have also been rumored for the cast in addition to Daveed Diggs and newcomer Jonah Hauer-King.
