Halle Bailey Cast As Ariel In Disney’s Live-Action ‘The Little Mermaid’

Disney has officially announced that another star is heading under the sea and she’s the star of the show. Halle Bailey, best known for being one half of the contemporary R&B duo Chloe x Halle, has been cast as Ariel in Disney’s The Little Mermaid remake.
The casting comes after a few weeks of rumors revolving which Hollywood names would be joining the film. Melissa McCarthy, Awkwafina & Jacob Tremblay have been rumored to play Ursula, Scuttle, and Flounder.

Directed by Rob Marshall (Mary Poppins Returns) and including a score and original music by Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton), the film is well on its way to following in the steps of Disney’s long line of live-action remakes.
“After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence, and substance, plus a glorious singing voice, all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role,” said Marshall on the casting.
This will turn out to be Bailey’s first starring role on the big screen. She has appeared in The Last Holiday and Joyful Noise.
