‘Frozen 2’ Passes ‘Frozen’ To Become Highest-Grossing Animated Film Of All-Time

After just seven weeks since its worldwide release, Frozen 2 has reached a major milestone. According to a report ran by Variety, the critically-acclaimed sequel has passed its predecessor to become the highest-grossing animated feature of all-time.
On the day where it is favored to win Best Animated Feature Film at the 77th annual Golden Globes, Frozen 2 has accrued $1.3 billion at the worldwide box office. Previously, 2013’s Frozen first reached the number 1 spot on the list with $1.27 billion, worldwide.

Although, many fans on social media will point to 2019’s The Lion King sitting comfortably at $1.6 billion, worldwide. However, despite being entirely computer-generated, Walt Disney Studios will consider The Lion King a “live-action” remake of the animated classic. With that in mind, Frozen 2 sits head-and-shoulders above the rest at the top of the list.
Next up for Walt Disney Animation, which claims 8 of the top 10 grossing animated films, is Raya and the Last Dragon. Directed by the studio’s longtime animator Paul Briggs with a script by Adele Lim (Crazy Rich Asians), it will hit theaters on November 25, 2020.
