Cassian Andor Disney+ Series Begins Production This Year

Over the last few months, Star Wars fans were sent on a whirlwind of emotions. From the less-than-stellar reactions to The Rise of Skywalker to the triumphant Mandalorian series, what the franchise’s future hold remains unknown. However, that future is still securely intact with a bevy of Disney+ projects in development. During a conversation with Entertainment Tonight, Cassian Andor actor Diego Luna revealed that his series will begin shooting sometime in 2020.
“Yes, we are doing it. We are doing it this year,” Luna told ET. “It’s happening, and I’m getting ready for it. I’m really excited.”
The actor continued to expand on what fans should expect from the upcoming Disney+ series. “I can’t wait,” Luna said. “It is really cool to tell a story where you already know the ending. It is a different approach because of the beauty and it’s how things happen. It’s not just what happens or the typical way of approaching a story. It’s about how things happen, which in fact, is the same that happened in Rogue One,” he continued. You know the ending, but you don’t know how it happened, and we have that challenge in front of us again, which is exciting.”

Rogue One debuted as the first Star Wars film to deviate from the franchise’s normal episodic nature. It featured a bevy of new characters and shed light on the rise of Darth Vader post-Revenge of the Sith. However, the film’s events ended with tragedy as the Empire crushed the opposition after they successfully completed their mission.
The Diego Luna-led series will serve as a prequel to Rogue One. It will feature Luna reprising his role as Cassian Andor with Alan Tudyk returning as his droid K-2SO.
Last month, reports that the other announced Star Wars series starring Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi was delayed indefinitely. However, LucasFilm remains positive in their ambition. Season 2 of The Mandalorian will begin streaming on Disney+ as soon as this fall. Additionally, the 7th and final season of The Clone Wars will premiere this month.
