Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ Series Delayed Indefinitely

Following the overwhelming success of The Mandalorian on Disney+, the future of Star Wars looked brighter than ever. Fans were eager to see what else the franchise could bring to the streaming service. However, that excitement comes to an abrupt end. The highly anticipated series about Obi-Wan Kenobi, with Ewan McGregor attached to reprise the role, has been put on hold for an unknown amount of time.
Cancelation rumors began running rampant late last week. However, Collider is reporting that the series has been put on hold and the crew that assembled at Pinewood Studios in London was sent home. Additionally, no return timeframe has been given. Sources close to the crew report that the show will be out of commission indefinitely. Furthermore, THR is reporting that only two scripts were completed for the series. If the series were to resume, it is more likely to be 4 episodes rather than the previously assumed 6.
Per the initial report, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy was not happy with the show’s script. The scripts will now go through a series of changes and, hopefully, resume production in the summer. This is good news for Star Wars fans as it sounds as if the powers-that-be want to tell the best story possible. Additionally, series star Ewan McGregor and showrunner Deborah Chow are still very much attached to the project.

The Kenobi series looked to be an extremely ambitious adventure. With episodes directed by Deborah Chow (Beauty and the Beast), the series was set to feature the likes of Luke Skywalker and Jar-Jar Binks. Additionally, Ewan McGregor teased his version of Obi-Wan Kenobi would be more like Alec Guinness’ original incarnation. The actor seems genuinely excited to reprise and expand the role in a series.
Despite this heartbreaking news, Star Wars fans still have much to look forward to. Season 7 of The Clone Wars will hit Disney+ in February. Moreover, the second season of The Mandalorian will premiere this fall.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that the series is on hold at Disney+? Let us know in the comments below!
