Billy Magnussen Joins The Cast Of Disney’s Live-Action ‘Lilo & Stitch’

Following the success of live-action adaptations of The Lion King and Aladdin, Disney continues to churn out updated versions of their most beloved films. Up next, Halle Bailey will star in The Little Mermaid. However, Disney will next look to remake its hit 2002 film Lilo & Stitch. As first reported by Deadline, Billy Magnussen is the latest name to join the project.
Magnussen joins Zach Galifianakis and newcomer Maia Kealoha in the cast of the latest Disney remake. The film will be directed by Marcel the Shell With Shoes On director Dean Fleischer Camp, who took the reins from Crazy Rich Asians director Jon M. Chu. Chris Kekaniokalani Bright (Moana) penned the script adapted from the original feature.

Releasing in 2002, Lilo & Stitch is the 42nd Disney animated feature film. The film hails from Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois in their directorial debuts. The film’s story follows two mischievous individuals. A six-year-old Hawaiian girl named Lilo (her 19-year-old sister Nani raises her after their parents die in a car accident) and a blue extraterrestrial creature, Experiment 626, who Lilo adopts as her dog and renames Stitch. Moreover, the film spawned the creation of a franchise with various direct-to-video sequels and a television series on the Disney Channel.
Lilo & Stitch is not Magnussen’s first adventure in the realm of Disney. Previously, the actor portrayed Rapunzel’s Prince in the film adaptation of Into the Woods and Prince Anders in 2019’s Aladdin. Additionally, the actor touts memorable roles in films like No Time To Die and Game Night Up next, Magnussen will star in Robert Rodriguez’s Spy Kids: Armageddon.
