Up next, the iconic film star will continue his working relationship with Amazon Studios. As first reported by Deadline, Murphys has signed the dotted line for a new Christmas comedy in the works titled Candy Cane Lane.
Per the initial report, the film hails from Kelly Younger (Muppets Haunted Mansion) and is inspired by Younger’s childhood. Reginald Hudlin (Black Panther: The Animated Series) will direct the film and produce alongside Murphy. Imagine’s Brian Grazer, a longtime collaborator of Murphy’s is also on-board to produce the film. The project will serve as the first film under Murphy’s three-picture and first-look film deal with Amazon Studios.
In a statement, Reginald Hudlin expresses his reasoning for taking the project on.
“The holiday season is my favorite time of year—just ask my family about my nine-hour Christmas playlist. I‘m excited to be working again with Eddie Murphy, Brian Grazer, and Amazon.”
Murphy recently earned an Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for hosting Saturday Night Live. Additionally, the cinematic legend touts a Golden Globe nomination for Netflix’s Dolemite Is My Name.
