Julianne Moore & Sandra Oh To Star In Amazon’s ‘Stone Mattress’ Adaptation

With the Cannes Film Market well underway, a new exciting package has been announced with some big-name actors already attached. As first revealed by Deadline, Julianne Moore and Sandra Oh will star in an upcoming project titled Stone Mattress.
Based on the 2014 short story collection by the Canadian author Margaret Atwood, Stone Mattress follows a bevy of strong women and otherworldly happenings. Per the initial report, the film adaptation will be a revenge thriller, set on a cruise ship in the Arctic. Lynne Ramsay (Ratcatcher) is on board to direct the film which will begin production in September on location in Greenland and Iceland. Amazon Prime Video will distribute the film domestically.

In a statement accompanying the announcement, Ramsey expresses why this project is so important to her.
“With the current repeal in women’s rights across the world, particularly regarding the overturning of Roe v Wade in America, this story, with its themes of stolen motherhood and unaccounted sexual abuse, feels more important than ever.”
Moore is an extremely accomplished performer and has earned countless accolades thanks to roles in films like Boogie Nights, The Kids Are All Right, and the final two Hunger Games films. Most recently, Julianne Moore starred alongside Ben Platt in Dear Evan Hansen. Up next, the Oscar winner will star in A24’s Sharper. Meanwhile, Oh recently starred in and produced the upcoming dramedy series The Chair. Additionally, the Killing Eve actress will join Awkwafina in a new comedy in the works for Netflix.
