Over the last few years, Amazon Studios has continued to find a foothold in the movie business with hits like Coming 2 America and Lucy and Desi making waves. Up next, as first reported by Deadline, Amazon will next team with Lionsgate to produce a sequel to the 2018 crime thriller A Simple Favor.
Per the initial report, the film’s original stars Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively are already on-board to return to the sequel. Additionally, Paul Feig, the director of the first feature, will also return to the helm. Moreover, Jessica Sharzer is back and writing the screenplay for the sequel as well. Lionsgate and Amazon will collaborate to produce and distribute the film.
A Simple Favor stars an all-star cast including Anna Kendrick, Blake Lively, Henry Golding, Andrew Rannells, Linda Cardellini, Rupert Friend, and Jean Smart. The story follows a small-town vlogger who tries to solve the disappearance of her mysterious and elegant friend. The film grossed $97 million worldwide and received acclaim from fans and critics alike.
Throughout her career, Anna Kendrick has achieved a bevy of recognition. Specifically, her work in Up in the Air earned her an Academy Award. Most recently, Kendrick led the cast for Netflix’s sci-fi thriller Stowaway. Next, the actress will lead the cast of Netflix’s true crime film Rodney & Sheryl. Meanwhile, Blake Lively gained widespread recognition for her role in the CW drama series Gossip Girl. Her additional film credits include memorable roles in films like The Shallows and Green Lantern. Up next, Lively will make her directorial debut with Seconds for Searchlight Pictures.
