Rupert Friend Rumored To Play The Grand Inquisitor In ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’

With the finale of The Book of Boba Fett premiering this week, Star Wars fans have their eyes on the next installment of the franchise. Last week, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Obi-Wan Kenobi is up next and will debut on Disney+ in May. Now, a new rumor from Bespin Bulletin points to a key figure from Star Wars lore appearing in the series alongside Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan. Per the initial report, Pride & Prejudice star Rupert Friend will portray The Grand Inquisitor in the series.
Also known as Master of the Inquisitorius, he is the highest-ranking Inquisitor of the Galactic Empire. Appearing in Star Wars Rebels, the Pau’an former Jedi Temple Guard is known only as the Grand Inquisitor. He ranks above other Inquisitors such as the Fifth Brother, Sixth Brother, Seventh Sister, Eighth Brother, and the Ninth Sister. As Grand Inquisitor, he reports to Darth Vader and hunts Jedi who survived the Great Jedi Purge. With Hayden Christiansen returning to reprise his role as Darth Vader in the series, it makes sense that the Sith Lord will deploy his troops to seek out his former master.

Moreover, Kumail Nanjiani, O’Shea Jackson Jr., and Sung Kang are among those cast in the show as well. Moses Ingram, Simone Kessell, Benny Safdie, and Indira Varma round out the ensemble. The series is written by Joby Harold and directed by Deborah Chow.
Rupert Friend’s impressive slate of film and TV roles include memorable turns in The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, Hitman: Agent 47, and Homeland. Most recently, Friend appeared in Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch and Antoine Fuqua’s Infinite. Up next, Friend joins Charlie Hunnam and Mel Gibson in the mystery thriller Last Looks.
