Destin Daniel Cretton To Write & Direct ‘Shang Chi’ Sequel & An MCU Series For Disney+

One of the most beloved new films of 2021 has been Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings. With rave reviews galore, including one from Full Circle’s James Preston Poole, it appears Marvel Studios agrees. As first reported by Deadline, Shang Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton has signed an exclusive multi-year overall deal with Marvel Studios, as well as Hulu’s Onyx Collective.
As a part of the agreement, Cretton will write and direct the sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Additionally, the filmmaker will develop a new mystery MCU series for Disney+. In a statement, President of Freeform & Onyx Collective, Tara Duncan, expresses her excitement to ink the deal with Cretton.
“Destin is a powerhouse storyteller with impeccable taste in material. As we continue to expand our roster, Destin’s unique voice will help usher in an exciting slate of content for our global audience,” says Duncan.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a screenplay by David Callaham. The film stars Simu Liu as the titular character Shang Chi. Additionally, Awkwafina, Meng’er Zhang, Benedict Wong, Michelle Yeoh, Ben Kingsley, and Tony Leung appear in the film as well. The film broke several box office records for the pandemic, grossing $431.9 million worldwide and making it the eighth-highest-grossing film of 2021.
