Chukwudi Iwuji Joins The Cast Of ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy, Vol. 3’ In A Pivotal Role

After years of back and forth and speculation, production for James Gunn’s third MCU film, Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3, is officially underway. In a social media post from the filmmaker himself, it was revealed that John Wick 2 star Chukwudi Iwuji is joining the ensemble for the film. However, further clarification from Gunn notes that Iwuji will portray a vital character in the Marvel flick.
Responding to a Twitter user, Gunn explains, “after working with him on Peacemaker I wasn’t about to let go of one of the best actors I’ve ever worked with – so I gave him the role most every big-name actor in Hollywood wanted.”

Shortly following the tweet, social media went into a frenzy wondering who Iwuji is playing in the film. The actor joins another recent addition, Will Poulter, who is portraying Adam Warlock. The two newcomers join franchise stalwarts Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, and Dave Bautista, who will return to reprise their MCU roles. James Gunn will write and direct. Additionally, given the Guardians’ involvement in Thor: Love and Thunder, an appearance from Chris Hemsworth’s Thor is likely as well. As always, Marvel COO Kevin Feige is on board as the film’s executive producer.
Iwuji mainly worked on stage for the Royal Shakespeare Company. The actor notably replaced David Oyelowo as Henry VI in the 2006 revival of This England: The Histories. Additionally, the actor touts various roles in movies like News of the World and John Wick 2. Up next, Chukwudi Iwuji will appear alongside 16-time WWE Champion John Cena in James Gunn’s HBO Max series, Peacemaker.
