Christian Bale is arguably one of the greatest living actors today. Thanks to remarkable turns in films like The Dark Knight, Vice, and American Psycho, Bale is the proud owner of one Academy Award and two Golden Globes. However, with a legendary catalog of films behind him, the actor continues to look towards the future. As first reported by Deadline, Bale is in talks to lead the cast of a new exciting film in the works at New Regency Productions.
The feature will be based on author David Kushner’s 2019 Vanity Fair article The Church of the Living Dangerously. The project will reteam Bale with Charles Randolph, co-writer of Bale’s The Big Short, who will adapt the story for the big screen. Additionally, Bale, Kushner, and Randolph will also serve as executive producers with New Regency handling financing and distribution.
The Church of Living Dangerously tells the real-life story of Pastor John Lee Bishop. At its height, Bishop’s church, The Living Hope Church, was so popular that it filled an 8500 square foot K-Mart superstore in Portland. Bishop’s tactics of preaching were enigmatic, to say the least. For example, the pastor would bring real exotic animals when discussing Noah’s Ark, getting mauled by a Bengal tiger in the process. Bishop became very wealthy, despite a plethora of controversies stemming from drug and alcohol abuse. Eventually, Bishop would find himself in prison for smuggling drugs for a Mexican cartel
Before Christian Bale embodies the role of Pastor Bishop, he recently wrapped filming for David O. Russell’s upcoming film opposite Margot Robbie and John David Washington. Additionally, the actor will make his MCU debut as Gorr the God Butcher in Thor: Love and Thunder. Additionally, Bale will also star alongside Henry Melling in Scott Cooper’s thriller The Pale Blue Eye.
