Perhaps best known for his role in the Harry Potter franchise, Harry Melling recently turned in a memorable performance in the award-winning Netflix series The Queen’s Gambit. Up next, the actor has landed a significant role alongside Oscar winner Christian Bale in a new film in the works for Netflix.
Melling will reportedly portray a legendary writer and poet Edgar Allen Poe in the murder mystery film titled The Pale Blue Eye. The plot follows a young Poe as he works alongside a veteran detective, portrayed by Christian Bale. The duo is tasked with solving a series of murders that took place in 1830 at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point long before Poe becomes a world-famous poet.
Black Mass director Scott Cooper will helm the feature with a script he penned himself. The screenplay is adapted from Louis Bayard’s 2007 novel of the same name. Both Bale and Cooper will executive produce the film alongside Tyler Thompson (The Trial of the Chicago 7) for Cross Creek Pictures. Netflix will handle the distribution of The Pale Blue Eye.
After appearing as Harry Potter’s bully cousin Dudley Dursley in 5 films, Melling continues to make a name for himself across film and television. This latest venture continues the actor’s relationship with Netflix following roles The Old Guard and The Devil All The Time. Meanwhile, Christian Bale continues to churn out award-winning performances in pictures like Vice and Ford v. Ferrari. Up next, Bale will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Gorr the God Butcher in Thor: Love and Thunder.
