Disney+ Greenlights ‘Beauty & The Beast’ Prequel Series With Briana Middleton Joining Josh Gad & Luke Evans

In 2017, Disney released its live-action Beauty and the Beast film which received a bevy of rave reviews from fans and critics alike. Late last year, it was revealed that a prequel series of that film was in active development and, as first reported by Deadline, Disney+ has given the series, titled Beauty and the Best, the greenlight to move forward.
The film’s original stars Josh Gad and Luke Evans are on board to reprise their roles as LeFou and Gaston respectively. Additionally, the two stars will be joined by Briana Middleton (The Tender Bar), who will serve as the show’s leading actress. The prequel will take the form of an eight-episode limited musical series developed and written by Gad and Once Upon a Time creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz. The three filmmakers will also serve as executive producers/co-showrunners.

Furthermore, EGOT winner Alan Menken will write the soundtrack. The prequel will follow Gaston, LeFou, and LeFou’s stepsister Tilly as they set off on an adventure. The trio finds themselves on an unexpected adventure packed with romance and adventure. Additionally, the series will expand the lore surrounding the Beauty and the Beast franchise.
Gary Marsh, president and chief creative officer of Disney Branded Television, expresses his excitement in a statement. “For anyone who’s ever wondered how a brute like Gaston and a goof like LeFou could have ever become friends and partners. How a mystical enchantress came to cast that fateful spell on the prince-turned-beast, this series will finally provide those answers…and provoke a whole new set of questions.”
