Elizabeth Banks To Direct & Co-Star In Peacock’s ‘Red Queen’ Series Adaptation

Elizabeth Banks continues to diversify her catalog of film and TV projects following her directorial debut with 2015’s Pitch Perfect 2. Next, the filmmaker will pull double duty. As first reported by Deadline, Banks will direct and star in a new series in the works at the Peacock streaming service titled Red Queen.
Written by Victoria Aveyard and published in February 2015, Red Queen is set in an alternate future within America. A monarchy led by superpowered individuals ruling over those with no special abilities replaces democracy. The story follows Mare, an impoverished young woman born without powers. However, while struggling to take for both herself and her family, she suddenly realizes she is developing her own superpowers. The turn of events sends the world around Mare in a tailspin as everyone looks to deal with the new development.

Banks will direct the series as well as play a major supporting role. Additionally, the aforementioned Victoria Aveyard will pen the series alongside Arrow showrunner Beth Schwartz. Warner Bros. TV will produce Red Queen in collaboration with Brownstone Productions with Peacock handling distribution.
Elizabeth Banks has performed in an incredible litany of films throughout her career. Best known for her role in The Hunger Games franchise, the actress most recently starred in and directed Charlie’s Angels in 2019. Additionally, the actress starred in James Gunn’s Brightburn and The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part last year. Moreover, Banks will portray the iconic Ms. Frizzle in the live-action Magic School Bus movie.
