Hannah John-Kamen To Star In Millennium Films’ ‘Red Sonja’

Back in February, the writer’s room for the long-awaited Red Sonja film welcomed Tasha Huo. At the time, reports revealed that casting announcements for the series was imminent. Now, as first reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Hannah John-Kamen has been selected to lead the film’s cast in the titular role.
The film, which has been in development for a number of years, is based on the character who appeared in Marvel Comics’ Conan the Barbarian comic in the early 1970s. Created by Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith, the character was fiery and strong enough to go toe-to-toe with Conan while refusing his romantic advances. The femme fatale was popular enough to spawn her own solo comic series. Additionally, Brigitte Nielsen plays the heroine in the 1985 film Red Sonja, which also starred Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Joel Soloway (Transparent) will direct the feature with a script co-written script with Tasha Huo. In a statement, Soloway expresses excitement for John-Kamen’s casting.
“Hannah is a very talented actress who we’ve been following for years and she IS Red Sonja,,” Soloway says. “Her range, sensibilities and strength are all qualities we have been looking for. We couldn’t be more excited to embark on this journey together.”
Hannah John-Kamen is perhaps best known for portraying Ava Starr AKA Ghost in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Ant-Man and the Wasp. Additionally, the English actress is also known for memorable roles in HBO’s Game of Thrones and Steven Spielberg‘s Ready Player One. Up next, she joins Robbie Amell and Kaya Scodelario in Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. Many fans also expect her to reprise her MCU role in future films or TV shows.
