‘The 50th Law’ Series Adaptation From 50 Cent & Kenya Barris In The Works At Netflix

Kenya Barris remains one of the busiest men in show business. Thanks to the overwhelming success of his ABC series Black-ish and its numerous spinoffs, the filmmaker signed a lucrative deal with Netflix. From the deal, the producer wrote and starred in a new series titled BlackAF. Up next, according to Deadline, Barris will team with Grammy Award winner Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson to develop a new drama series for the streaming service.
The two prolific TV producers will collaborate to produce an adaptation of the best-selling book The 50th Law. Written by 50 Cent, along with author Robert Greene, the book is a semi-biographical telling of the rapper’s upbringing in New York. The story follows a young hustler working to break into the music business. However, the book is laced with lessons and anecdotes from historical figures like Malcolm X, James Baldwin, Sun Tzu, and Abraham Lincoln.
Barris will write the show’s script along with his longtime collaborator Hale Rothstein. Additionally, Barris will executive producer via his overall deal with Netflix through his production banner Khalabo Ink Society. 50 Cent’s G-Unit Film & Television will also produce the adaptation.

50 Cent’s recent venture into the TV medium has proven to be pretty successful. His series Starz series Power receives a number of accolades with every passing season and his latest project For Life premiered on ABC earlier this year. The entrepreneur will next produce a new series for CBS titled Twenty Four Seven starring Ant-Man and the Wasp star T.I.
Meanwhile, Kenya Barris continues to add to his already impressive filmography. The filmmaker’s Netflix series, BlackAF, was met with rave reviews from fans and critics alike. The Coming 2 America writer also co-penned the script for HBO Max‘s recent film The Witches. Up next, Barris will develop the Black-ish spinoff, Old-ish, starring Laurence Fishburne. Barris will also make his directorial debut as he steps up to helm the anticipated Richard Pryor biopic.
